Hornsea Project One was awarded a Final Investment Decision Enabling contract (Contract for Difference) by the UK Government in April  2014. Under this CfD the business will receive a fixed price per MWh of electricity produced by the wind farm for the first 15 years of operation following which SMart Wind and DONG Energy will receive the market price.

Project One will consist of up to 240 wind turbines (each between 5-8MW) and will be located 120km off the Yorkshire coast, covering approximately 407 square kilometres.

SMart Wind has submitted the application for the Project Two offshore wind farm on behalf of Optimus Wind Ltd and Breesea Ltd to the Planning Inspectorate (PINS) for consent determination, on 30th January. The application documents as submitted are available on the PINS website for Project Two .

Project Two, the second offshore wind farm SMart Wind is developing in the Hornsea Zone, will be up to 360 turbines and is located approximately 89km off the Yorkshire coast. When complete, it will deliver up to 1800MW of electricity and bring low carbon power to the UK and the opportunity for economic growth in the Humber region.  SMart Wind expects a recommendation by PINS, and decision by the Secretary of State for Energy, by mid-2016.
